Planning & Environmental Law

How can we help you?
Planning and environmental law and procedure can affect your ability to obtain best value from property and can constrain the way you carry on business. Our Planning & Environmental Law Division can work with you to achieve your objectives within the framework of the legislation.
Development proposals can generate conflict and conflict can be costly, disruptive and time consuming. Taking specialist legal advice at an early stage will ensure that you can avoid conflict where possible. Where it is not, it can ensure that you move as fast and as effectively as possible through the conflict resolution procedures.
This is a rapidly changing area of the law. Members of the Division were lead authors of Scottish Planning Law & Procedure published under the auspices of the Scottish Universities' Law Institute in December 2001. The book was described by one reviewer as of 'extraordinarily high quality' and by another as 'the authoritative text on Scottish Planning Law'. A member of the Unit is also the author of Compulsory Purchase and Compensation: the Law in Scotland published in 2003. Our Planning & Environmental Law Division will make you aware of key proposals for reform and advise you on how best to respond to change.
